• Voltage: To 240V 50/60Hz
• Custom Tap Configurations
• Custom Mounting/Enclosures

Bicron, with 40 plus years of design and manufacturing experience, is expert in producing outstanding quality/performance custom toroidal transformers.

• Custom designed units, engineered for use in specific, demanding electrical environments, feature very high isolation, for example, for very high system operating voltages and similar extreme requirements.

• A balanced system of Bicron engineering, manufacturing, and testing applied to both high frequency (to 1Mhz) drive transformers and 50/60hz toroidal products results in superior overall performance.

• Exhaustive testing procedures are used with Bicron Toroidal Transformers to be certain that harsh electrical environments, lightning surges, or power spikes will have little or no effect on performance. See "Corona Testing" for more information about Bicron manufacturing and testing methods.

• Higher efficiency than laminated core devices, both off-load and on-load, are inherent characteristics of Bicron Toroidal Transformers. Efficiencies approaching 90% are not unusual (see left column for detail).

• Wide varieties of form factors make it possible to more easily fit available spaces—from 1:1 cylindrical to 1:10, disk shaped.

•Outstanding Service is a Bicron hallmark. Bicron contiually strives to excel in the most important areas of design, performance, and product delivery. . . making sure that products meet performance specs and are delivered to the right place at the right time.

Higher Efficiency
The toroidal transformer typically requires only 10% of the magnetizing current required by laminated transformers. Higher flux densities are permitted because the direction of the magnetic flux is the same as the steel core grain. High flux densities allow fewer turns of copper wire, reducing the DCR of the winding.

Lower Off-load
Power Consumption

The inherent characteristics of the toroidal design result in greatly reduced off-load power consumption compared to laminiated designs, leading to potentially significant long term operating cost reductions.

Bicron Employs Special Manufacturing Techniques
and Testing Methods To Minimize Corona Risk

Corona, or partial discharge, is defined by ASTM as a “type of localized discharge resulting from transient gaseous ionization in an insulation system when the voltage stress exceeds a critical value.” The corona (partial discharge) level has a pronounced effect on the life of the transformer.
As the voltage stress is increased, corona inception is likely to result if insulation system anomalies are present. As voltage stress is reduced, corona extinction will occur. The corona inception/extinction cycle may repeat rapidly during the operation of the coil. Excess energy dissipated during these repeating cycles frequently causes insulation system deterioration, resulting in premature failure of the coil.
